Construction Update — April 9, 2008

A different set of changes have taken place in all buildings of the Green Music Center during these past weeks. It is now very easy to imagine a concert in the main hall, supper before a performance in the restaurant or students practicing an upcoming piece in one of the ensemble rooms. To see the latest photos and video, click on the photo links on the right.

Concert Hall
For the past month or so, the interior of the concert hall has been filled from floor to ceiling with scaffolding so workers could begin at the top of the 50 foot tall ceiling in the hall installing infrastructure, custom millwork and plaster finishes. Now some of the final finishes (such as the balcony railings and finished walls and ceiling are being installed). The lobby has windows, and the doorways that will lead to the concert hall are being prepped for finishing. The stone façade on the exterior of the hall is in place as well as the wood siding that accompanies it. The outside of the concert hall has been painted a beige color that complements the siding and stone. The concert hall is anticipated to open in Fall 2010, pending all the funds are raised.

Music Education Hall
This is the first building that will open and is nearing completion inside and out. As the hall that will house faculty, staff and students this fall, a strong effort is being made to move quickly to completion. Windows are in, interior heating and air are in process. Walls are up and the outside of the building is painted.

SCHROEDER'S RECITAL HALL
Schroeder's was recently featured in a photograph in the Press Democrat newspaper. The building features very high ceilings, much like an ancient European cathedral. The rooms connecting Schroeder’s with Music Education Hall are in the process of completion and include ensemble and practice rooms.

HOSPITALITY CENTER
The University is working with an interior design contractor to maximize what will be a cornerstone of the Green Music Center. Portions of the hospitality center are anticipated to open in Spring 2009.

TAKE A "Tuesday Tour"
For those who have not yet taken a tour of the Green Music Center, there are more opportunities this semester—and they are called Tuesday Tours. Each Tuesday afternoon (3:15 p.m.), rain or shine, there is a 30 minute tour. See the progress, ask questions and learn about what will take place once the Center opens. RSVPs are needed; contact Susan Kashack at susan.kashack@sonoma.edu or 707 664-2122. Please wear close-toed shoes and dress for the weather.
